Similar to “Chip and Pin”, 3D Secure authentication requires cardholders to enter a password or PIN number in order to authenticate themselves for e-commerce transactions.
By proving that the real cardholder is executing the transaction, fraud and chargebacks are reduced. As a result, European banks and other banks around the world offer reduced bank charges of up to .20% to merchants using 3D Secure, resulting in significant savings for merchants who implement this technology.
